How to Make Your Goals Happen

“If you don’t have a dream, and if I don’t have a dream, how are we going to make a dream come true?”
We can do so much more than we give ourselves credit for. We have an incredible, unlimited resource available to us. In fact, it would shock most people to find out just how much could be achieved in their lifetimes if only they had tried with what was immediately available to them. Because most people do not understand how much potential they have, they limit their aspirations to the level at which they know they can achieve.
Here are just four considerations I encourage you to study and put in place in your life as you begin to set – and achieve – your goals in the year ahead.
1) Let yourself dream!
A dream is one of the most powerful forces on the planet. Dreaming is often kicked out of us as children. We’re told, instead, to start paying attention! Remember, it was only a dream that freed black people from slavery. It was only a dream to send a man to the moon. It was only a dream to abolish Communism. It’s only a dream today to cure Cancer and Aids. Only a dream? Dreams are one of the most powerful forces known to man. Remember, every major accomplishment started with a dream.
At a leading university in the United States, a study was conducted to evaluate the power of dreams and necessity of dreams. The participants were attached to brainwave monitoring devices. The machines would indicate exactly when the patients began dreaming. Whenever a person began dreaming, he or she would be awakened, interrupting these thoughts and dreams. The results came as such a shock to the team that, after 7 days, they had to abandon the project because of the serious effects on the participants when they were not allowed to dream.
The patients became neurotic. There were signs of deep, emotional upset and imbalance due to dream deprivation. Some of the patients were on the verge of insanity. The experiment was abandoned; the risk was too high.
Dreaming is essential to mental health. It is even more important to the person who desires more of the good life.
Anyone who truly wants to open the world of wealth must become a certified dreamer!
2) Recognize that you have the power to overcome your obstacles.
I call them the Goal-Sabotaging Hurdles, and unless you conquer them, you will never achieve your goals. In fact, you won’t even get off the mark until you make some strong decisions about how you react to these deadly hurdles.
People often get really charged up about some goal or dream. They start planning and designing things, then give up because they fear it might fail. How sad! Every great and noble goal has a failure factor built in. If it didn’t, everyone would have already attained that goal!
It’s so easy to get lost in this trap of Goal-Sabotaging Hurdles. Refuse to be stopped. Refuse to abandon your goal just because it looks like it might fail. Don’t let anyone convince you to stop when you know inside that you will succeed.
3) Recognize the hurdles that try to keep you from your goals.
As you work toward your goal, understand these Goal-Sabotaging Hurdles so that you will recognize them for what they are – mere hurdles.
The Lack Hurdle
Ever wonder how many great ideas were rejected because the originator of that idea did not have the time, the money, or the manpower to bring the idea into fruition? Start building and creating a great life for yourself now. It doesn’t matter what you might THINK is missing – it’s all there for you. If you hold the image of your goal in your mind, you will attract everyone and everything you need for the fulfillment of that goal. You are like a magnet.
Refuse to concentrate on lack. If your goal is big enough, the money, time, and help will all appear. Remember, the mind is like a Polaroid camera. It sees an image – in this case the dream image – and produces the physical equivalent.
The Stretch Hurdle
People often give up on a big goal because they know they will have to stretch. Stretching, for the most part, is uncomfortable so they abandon the great idea or goal. If you are to win and win big in life, you will have to learn how to be flexible.
Everyone has a comfort zone determined by previous conditioning. The important thing is to be willing to grow and to change. Succeeding in life may require you to do things that are uncomfortable. Do it anyway! Success is the important thing, not whether you did it your way or not.
The Global Hurdle
When Columbus set sail, did he have the whole picture? When you placed a deposit to buy your first house, did you know exactly where the rest of the down payment would come from?
Most people feel they must reject dreams or goals because they don’t have the whole or global picture. They aren’t sure of all the composite parts, so they throw in the towel. Keep ideas flowing and give them time to germinate.
They can’t grow if you yank them out of the ground simply because you don’t know exactly how the whole thing will pan out.
The Success Hurdle
People fear failure … but many also fear success. As human beings, our very nature is to be afraid of that which we do not understand. The reason many fear success is due to the fact that they have never experienced it. You will often hear these people say, “Money will make you greedy and evil,” when in truth, money has nothing to do with it. Poor and rich alike suffer from greed and/or evil behavior.
Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir man’s blood
and probably will not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and in work, remembering that a noble and logical diagram will not die.
People will get you to reject an idea or goal because there may be something wrong with it. There’s something wrong with every good idea. What’s wrong with these folks?! Let’s keep the goal, even with its imperfections. So you don’t have the whole solution today, so what? Our good friend, Dr. Robert Schuller, said it best: “There are no problems, there’s only a shortage of ideas.”
The Impossible Hurdle
Nothing is impossible! Erase that word from your vocabulary. Thomas Edison was branded as being “slow” by his teachers. He left school after only three months of formal education. He burned down his father’s barn and used to sit on eggs to try to make them hatch. He was branded a misfit by society, yet he went on to become one of the greatest inventors of all time, creating over 1,000 inventions including the electric light, phonograph and movie camera.
People are limited by their own beliefs. They give up because they perceive something is impossible. What was Edison told when he wanted to invent a light bulb? He did it anyway! They told Henry Ford that it was impossible to mass- produce the automobile, but he did it. They told Alexander Graham Bell that he could not create the telephone, but he did it. While one person is deciding why something will not work, another is making it work!
The Hard Work Hurdle
Never reject an idea, dream or goal simply because it will be hard work. Success rarely comes without it. The thing is to keep the idea alive long enough to be able to devote enough energy and/or resources toward the goal to see it comes to pass.
The world of welfare and broken dreams is full of people who refuse to advance themselves because they won’t work hard. If you want to move ahead and design the life you want, then stick with it and keep moving forward, one step at a time.
All too often, people abandon their goals because of the work it requires at the beginning. Reaching a goal is like pushing a snowball down a hill. You push and push at the start, until you make it so big that the snowball starts to roll on its own.
4) Understand the difference between goal setting vs. goal achieving.
Stop for a moment and consider the world of difference between goal setting and goal achieving. I think both are necessary but people rarely understand the vast difference between the two.
Goal setting is largely an intellectual process of determining the direction of your goals. It involves using your mental faculties to create a picture on the screen of your mind.
Goal achieving is the process of getting emotionally involved in that idea and moving in the direction of that picture through your actions.
Here are some practical action steps you can take today to move the mental picture of your goal into practical form:
  • Identify a major goal that is challenging and emotional to you. By that, I mean a goal that you are genuinely excited about.
  • Write the date for the attainment of your goal.
  • Choose a goal that you’ve never achieved before. To set a goal to lose 20 pounds in 90 days is not a goal if you’ve achieved this same goal in the past.
  • Develop a specific plan for attaining your goal.
  • Make a list of people, organizations and publications that might assist you in achieving your goal.
  • Begin thinking, feeling, and acting as if you already have the goal in your possession. This is where real dreaming comes in!
  • Consider solely how the goal can be reached; refuse to accept, even for a second, that is cannot be reached. Retreat is not an option.
  • Carry your goal with you on a Goal Card and read it several times each day.
If you could have anything you wanted in life, what would it be? If you could do anything you wanted, or be whatever you wanted, what would you choose?
Understand this: You can have, do or be, anything you want! It’s a choice and it’s your choice. Begin today! I’ve given you the compass – now stay on course.

Zing Up Your Life With These Positive Thinking Exercises

It is said that tough times never last, but tough people do. One often wonders what is the driving force behind their infallibility. Come to think of it, one reason could be optimism. Otherwise, it would have been impossible for people to come out trumps after dealing with difficult situations in their lives. Almost all have encountered tough and frustrating phases in their lives. However, it is necessary to cut out the negativity, and this can be achieved by indulging in some positive affirmations. It is not to say that only if one is going through a period of wreckage everywhere, one should follow these techniques and it would get them out of the mess. Instead, these exercises have to be done regularly to enable one to tackle the good as well as bad times and that too with a balanced state of mind.

It is believed that one's thoughts govern one's words, which reaches the brain, and then, the brain converts those into actions. Hence, one should guide his/her thoughts towards something positive if they are tending towards depression and negativity, because that would have an impact on how one behaves. One can visualize a positive image and think about the things that make one happy, and try to keep the negativity in check.

One should always try to use positive words while talking. Never say 'I can't'. One should just believe that he/she can or he/she would try their hardest or give their best. Thus, one would have to push themselves towards it. Constantly say things to yourself like, 'I can', 'I will', 'I believe in myself'. Another aspect is to play around with words that make one happy and instils confidence in them. Make sure that the words used evoke power and a sense of achievement.

If one mutters affirmations just for the sake of doing so, it would all be futile. For these affirmations to work, one would have to believe in themselves. One should have the faith that he/she would succeed and that one would get what he/she wants. Better still, just believe that one has got there.

Usually, people tend to crib about what went wrong. Instead, one should be grateful for all the good things that he/she has got and then see the difference. One should begin their day with a big thank you in advance, for the wonderful day that has come. This is a very effective method to infuse positivity in our lives.
One should make a list of all the things that one wants in their life and visualize how he/she is going to get them. One should justify to himself/herself as to why one deserve these things and why one is going to get these things. One should focus on the reasons for him/her getting it, instead of why he/she might not get it.
Usually, people tend to crib about what went wrong. Instead, one should be grateful for all the good things that he/she has got and then see the difference. One should begin their day with a big thank you in advance, for the wonderful day that has come. This is a very effective method to infuse positivity in our lives.

They say that every coin has two sides. Each situation of one's life is also like that. It is just that sometimes only one side is perceived. Of course, unfortunate things do happen. However, one should try to see what could have happened and what has been a positive outcome of that unfortunate incident. See the good part, as every cloud has a silver lining.

One should indulge in some activity everyday, which would makes him/her happy and aid in forgetting about all the worldly worries and tensions of mere mortals. It could be hitting a gym, joining a dance or music class, listening to music, reading a book, cooking or anything under the sun. Once the relaxing effect of these activities, trickles down, one would get into that positive mode. This is one of the most easiest tips.

Put God First - Denzel Washington Motivational & Inspiring Commencement Speech -

Awesome - needed by all!

What's Stopping You? Getting Rid of the Barriers

Often people tell me of unfulfilled dreams that they wish could have been realized. My first response is that it is never too late to chase a goal. My second response is to try to find out what has been and continues to stop them!
What would you tell me about you? Are you:
1. Insecure - People who are afraid rarely start anything because they figure that they will fail. In fact, they are defeated before they even get to the starting blocks. Old messages from childhood can interfere with their confidence and immobilize their actions. If you are feeling insecure, find a mentor who has found success in the field where you wish to achieve. Take time to gain knowledge. Soon you will be ready to take a step forward.

2. Overwhelmed - Sometimes life seems too difficult and instead of taking action, people freeze. A project can seem to be so big that there is no end in sight. Start by breaking the task down into small, manageable pieces. Do you want to downsize? Try removing one item from the house every day. In thirty days you have removed thirty items. After a year there will be three hundred and sixty-five less things in your surroundings.
3. Lazy - Those who focus on luxuriating, live with negative consequences in the long-run. When you neglect your career, family, friends and home, you will lose your support and security over time. Begin by making a list of all the things that you value and beside each write at least one thing that you need to do this week to protect them.
4. Hurting - Every person on earth has had at least one deep hurt in life. Some people give up and become victims who are not willing to do anything positive to heal to move forward. Others use their pain to help other people. I have heard some people say that time heals. I really don't believe that. Some people hold onto their trauma for decades and never let go! Get professional help when you are stuck!

5. Procrastinating - Do you have great ideas that you never germinate? Are you the person who has advise for other people that you never follow yourself? You likely know the answers to the situation that you are facing but tend to put off enacting them. No one will do the work for you, so it is time to get started. All talk and no action mean you are dead in the water when it comes to progress.
6. Committed - Do you have a goal and a plan to help you achieve it? Are you willing to try even if you don't succeed at first? Would you be willing to study in order to learn strategies that will bring good results? Who do you know who would be willing to encourage and teach you?

Here's the good news. No matter where you fall on the list, you can change and soon you will be able to replace your regret with success!

The Law of Attraction and Letting Go of Your Limiting Beliefs

We are vibrational beings. With every thought we have we transmit a vibration to the Universe. When we place our focus of attention on a particular thought, we strengthen the vibration of that thought. The Universe responds to our vibration by giving us what we are placing our energy and attention on.When we repeatedly hold a thought, it becomes a belief. Our beliefs determine what shows up in our lives. If, for example, a person believes he or she is not deserving of success, then despite all efforts, there will be some way in which she sabotages her success.
Most of our beliefs come from the ideas we picked up in childhood. Unfortunately, many of those beliefs are not true. Think about your self-talk. How often is it encouraging and positive? For most people, the majority of their thoughts are negative and habitual. No wonder so many people struggle to reach their goals and dreams!
Our beliefs, attitudes and values are stored in our subconscious mind. You may not even realize some of the beliefs you hold subconsciously. Our beliefs become the lens through which we see the world and affect how we behave. If you want to know what beliefs you hold, simply look at your life and ask, "What would someone have to believe in order to have created this?"
Perhaps you recognize some of these commonly held beliefs:
  • No matter what I do or how hard I try, it's never good enough.
  • I blame others for my problems.
  • My opinion doesn't matter.
  • What I do isn't really important.
  • If people knew the real me they wouldn't like me.
  • I shouldn't try anything new or risky because I'll probably screw it up.
  • I don't deserve to be happy (be successful, have love, etc.)
  • Mistakes and failure are bad.
The way to consciously deactivate a thought is to replace it with a different thought. When you first give your attention to a new thought, the vibration isn't very strong. But with practice, you begin to shift your limiting dominant thought to the new one. You actually create new neural pathways in the brain, so the new thought is now your default thought. Now you will be transmitting a vibration in alignment with what you want to create in your life.
Think about how you feel when you have a negative thought. Not so good, right? That feeling of contraction is your indicator you are off track from creating what you want. Your Source knows you are deserving and capable of bringing into being everything you want to be, do and have. When you think a negative thought you are out of alignment with what is actually true about you. So, use your feelings as your internal guidance system to tell if you are in alignment with your desires or keeping them away from you.
Some ways to practice shifting to positive thoughts:
  1. Start paying more attention to your self-talk. When you notice a negative thought, gently replace it with a thought that feels better. Practice the new thought as an affirmation. You can start the new thought with the words "I've decided" or "I chose." Ex: I choose to know that I am deserving of success" or "I've decided I am deserving of success."
  2. Scripting is another great way to practice new thinking and raise your vibration. Simply write a story about how you want your life to look, as if it was already accomplished. Use sentence starters like, "I love knowing that... " and "It's so exciting when... " Read your script frequently to raise your vibration-and make sure it is something that feels great to read!
  3. Vision boards and "mind movies" are great if you are a visual person. There are many resources online that will help you with ideas for creating a vision board or create a video version of a vision board.
  4. EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique, also called "tapping") or PSYCH-K are two modalities that work to help you shift limiting subconscious beliefs quickly.

The Gravitational Pull of ANTs, WORMS & FEARS

What is an ANT?
An ANT is an acronym for Automatic Negative Thoughts.
What is a WORM?
A WORM is a metaphor for deep-seated, unconscious beliefs that lye dormant in our consciousness analogous to a computer virus that only activates when a certain button is pushed on our keyboard.
What is a FEAR?
A FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real; an optical illusion that makes you believe it is impossible to move beyond this point so why even try. FEAR is a lie!
ANTs are pre-conscious thoughts, beliefs, ideas that keep us trapped in our comfort zone. They exist to stop us from moving to far ahead of our current environment. They cause us to become uncomfortable with our potential and possibility.
They exist to keep us in a holding pattern where we don't act or do anything to better ourselves. They keep us stagnated and stifled. They cause us to sabotage our good.
WORMS are much stronger than ANTs and are more insidious and pervasive. If we are focused, we can overcome an ANT with sheer will power, but will power up against a WORM [deep seated, dominant belief] is like one soldier up against an entire army. A WORM will destroy will power and we will automatically sabotage our life and act in a manner consistent with our dominant beliefs.

For instance, we might have an ANT that says, "I'm not good enough to be with this person." If we force our way through that automatic negative thought using shear will power and continue to stay in the relationship, the ANT may be crushed but then the WORM will appear and may say, "You ARE NOT good enough to be with that person so why are you trying - LOSER!" At that moment when the unconscious, dominant belief has you in its grips, you will begin to slowly or abruptly (depending on frequency) sabotage the relationship in some shape, form or fashion.

The Law of Attraction
The law of attraction simply means that you attract in life what you are not what you want and what you are is what you think about when you are not thinking about anything. The law of attraction states who you are - your dominant beliefs and unconscious thoughts; i.e., DNA (see SHOCKphilosophy(TM) Principle #4) -- ANTs, WORMS and FEARS.

I am sure you have heard the term, like attracts like. It's the reason why rich people hang out with rich people and poor people hang out with poor people. What we must be mindful of is our DNA programming is designed not to go outside of its comfort zone for extended periods of time. With that said, it's understandable why we feel uncomfortable when we are around something or someone we have never been exposed to that stretches us, challenges us to be more, do more and having more.

So it is our DNA programming; ANTs, WOMRS, and FEARS that keep us locked into this vicious cycle that gives the illusion of progression when in fact we are on auto-repeat; just standing still. We then attract people, places and things in our life to confirm this process and keep us in a holding pattern.

The law of attraction is so powerful that if you had two pianos in different rooms and struck the c-note on the first piano the other piano's c-chord would be vibrating as well. The law of attraction is gravitational which is why in order to move to the next quantum or level in life we must first move and expand our consciousness so that we can attract a different outcome.

In order to move from one gravitational pull to another, we must become comfortable with being uncomfortable, face our ANTs, WORMS and FEARS and learn how to handle next level thinking. When you expand consciousness, expand spiritually, emotionally and psychologically, you automatically move into another vibration or gravitational pull. You will also bring along with you for the ride and new set of ANTs, WORMS and FEARS whose soul purpose is to push or pull you to yet another level by making your current level content and hopefully unconformable.

This is why it is so very important and necessary to learn how to neutralize your ANTs, WORMS and FEARS because it causes you to move in quantum steps verses minute steps. You shorten your learning curve and lesson your barriers to entry at the next level in life when you confront the DNA programming that is keeping you where you are - within the Gravitational Pull of ANTs, WORMS & FEARS.
